Lipfacts or Fiction?

When I was approached to review an all natural lipstick, I was hesitant at first. I am the first one to say I am not a lipstick fan. I will choose lip gloss or lip balm any day! I really like the natural lip look. But when I thought about it, I realized that many of my readers love lipstick and may need some safer options. So I decided to go for it and explore an all natural lipstick line.

Facefacts by Lori
is a small cosmetic company started by professional makeup artist Lori Hoffman. Right now, they offer lip products, but look for more cosmetic products coming soon! All Lipfacts Naturally Elegant Lipsticks are made with completely natural and organic ingredients. Lipfacts uses mineral pigments to make beautiful colors and does not test on animals. Lori sent me two colors: Raisin and Berry Mauve. These colors were very similar (a reddish-brown) and I only tried them for a day, as they were not my colors! I decided to pass them to a friend of mine….and it turns out they were her perfect colors!

My friend really liked these lipsticks! She told me they were very long-wearing, rich, and creamy. She did say that they seemed to need more moisture. I had the same thought when I tried the Almond Cream shade. I countered this by adding a top layer of lip gloss…it made it more moist. I also always use lip balm before I put lipstick on so that helped too.

This was Lori’s response when I mentioned that we thought the lipsticks needed a bit more moisture:
“The reason it feels like it needs more moisture is NOT because it lacks moisturizing ingredients , as you can clearly read on the panel, it is rich in emollient ingredients. (butters ,waxes and oils.) We needed to make a lipstick that is luxurious and truly natural, as well as VERY long lasting in color and creaminess. I believe we have achieved that. Bobbie Brown is the line I adore and I used her products as a prototype in terms of feel, texture and color payoff. I think we did a great job in creating a natural prestige version of our own that is more than comparable.”

I definitely must agree with Lori here…..it might be that I am just not used to lipstick! I also really loved the long-lasting rich color it allowed me to have. The Almond Cream shade is a lovely nude shade that gives you a very natural look. Right now, there are 8 lovely shades to choose from.  Another fabulous part of LipFacts lipstick is that it contains all natural ingredients such as jojoba seed oil, shea butter, and vitamin E to name a few. Check out their ingredients page here: Lipfacts Ingredients

Lipfacts leaves out toxic and chemical ingredients. Lipfacts Naturally Elegant Lipstick contain absolutely no mineral oil, lead, petrolatum, dyes, lakes, and parabens. Remember, we ingest our lipstick and if we do this, we should be using products we can eat! Lipfacts by Lori gives women a better choice and proves that your health does not have to be compromised for beauty.

Stay natural…stay beautiful…go green!

Do you know what’s really in your lipstick? What about the certification on the organic ingredients?

  • http://www.toxicbeautyblog.com Robin Adler

    From the Facefactsylori.com web site:

“Treat yourself to our premium, color rich, luxurious textured, color cosmetics made with all natural and certified organic ingredients. Realize that lip products are ingested, and you deserve a healthy alternative.”

Like I said…You have NO idea what’s in the ingredients. Tell me this….how can a product be considered “Vegan” if they list beeswax as one of their ingredients?!! Funny..doesn’t beeswax come from….BEES?

What do you think Zenigloss is? There is no possible way that is organic!!! I would love to the the 3rd party certification. They have every other symbol on their website but an organic one.

The lipstick shades are very nice. Lip facts Naturally Elegant Lipstick are made of natural ingredients, so they are safe for lips.

  • http://www.toxicbeautyblog.com Robin Adler

On Lipfacts website it states that Lipfacts are made with natural and certified organic ingredients. It does not state that the lipstick is organic. The review does not say that Lipfacts is vegan. I cannot find anywhere on their site that says that as well.

Zenigloss is explained on the Facefactsbylori.com website and is listed as Castor Isostearate Succinate. On the Cosmetics Safety Database this ingredient is reported as a “0″ risk. See it here: Castor Isostearate Succinate

    I appreciate your comments.

Zenigloss (Castor Isostearate Succinate) and Zenigloss S (Castor Isostearate Beeswax Succinate).(derived from beeswax) are natural liquid polymers that make our lipstick resistant to water, preventing flaking and smudging, while enhancing a glossy moist appearance on the lips)
You are NOT accurate in stating that we are VEGAN. WE are NOT and make no claims to be.
    Have a wonderful day !!!!!!!!

    Dear Dani:
I appreciate your comments. I have conducted years of research prior to formulating FACEFACTS lipfacts collection. My cosmetic chemist has extensive experience in cosmetic formulations. We utilize ONLY 100% natural ingredients, and certified organic ingredients wherever possible .We make no claims to be vegan at all.
ZENIGLOSS (INCI name: Castor Isostearate Succinate)
This natural polymer of vegetable origin is particularly suited for use in skin care products where an extended wear is desired, such as make up products. It also provides good adhesion qualities for pigments and sunscreen films and when used in low solids emulsions it imparts a luxurious skin feel often associated with more expensive products. In lip glosses and lipsticks it provides adhesion and shine, imparting higher luster and a reduced tendency to run or smear and it gives smoother application, better stick integrity .

    Hi Lori,
I appreciate your comments. You said “have conducted years of research prior to formulating”.
    Are you a chemist??

  • http://WWW.FACEFACTSBYLORI.COM LORI HOFFMANN

    Hi Dani:

I am not a cosmetic chemist. FACEFACTS has its own cosmetic chemists.I , along with them, have conducted research for the ingredients, their functions and benefits.

  • Dani

    Hi Lori,
I am a chemist. I specialize in environmental toxicology. I’m sure you mean well and have the purest of intentions, but the ingredients in your products are not 100% natural. Have any of your products been tested for levels of lead? You also aren’t showing any certificate for Organic documentation. It might benefit you to do a little more research in how the ingredients you use are obtained…or made. It might shed some light on the true nature of the ingredients.

    Hey Robin-

This is a great post. I didn’t even know that lipstick came natural. I bookmarked this on Delicious. I may even pick up some of this lipstick when I get through all the toxic sticks in my beauty arsenal ;-)

I’m ever the one not to waste stuff!

“We utilize ONLY 100% natural ingredients”

There is NO industry definition of natural that includes ingredients such as Zenigloss. This may be a lovely lipstick, but referring to it as “chemical free” is nonsense. EVERYTHING is a chemical…every single ingredient in every single cosmetic…everywhere. http://www.green-washing.info

    Hey Michelle,

Thanks so much for visiting and reading. I appreciate it! We’re planning a giveaway soon for this lipstick so who knows….maybe you’ll get to try it sooner than you think!!

    Robin

  • http://freshradiantskin.com Fresh Radiant Skin

    Wouldn’t that be great!

I disagree with Susan Sawhill Apito. Not every product is filled with chemicals. For example, I offer a moisturizing sugar scrub and these are the ONLY ingredients: Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Cocoa Butter, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Honey, Sugar, Vitamin E, Essential oils (based on the scent chosen for example, Lemon essential oil)

Yes most skin care and beauty products contain chemicals but some of the preservative chemicals are not as harmful in small doses. I think the goal is to get as natural as possible.

    Dear Susan ;
When we were still in the formulating phase of the products ,we used the guildlines set forth by IANPP. The Colorado based marketing director at that time for FACEFACTS , is a reknowned , highly respected industry wide, expert in “naturals”.
My chemist , followed the standards accordingly, and each and every ingredient was reviewed personally and approved by the co founder of IANPP.
