What does soap do?
By
Currently we are dealing with the threat of “Swine Flu.” It’s a scary thought that this disease can go so quickly from one person to another. The best defense against this is thorough hand washing for at least 15 seconds. But what should you use to wash your hands?
Soap is designed to cleanse and kill germs but regular soap can contain many artificial ingredients that irritate the skin. It also kills much of the beneficial bacteria that we need. Soap contains a compound called SLS or sodium laurel sulfate. This ingredient strips the skin of its natural moisture and can also cause some serious skin conditions, even cancer.
Hand sanitizer is not much better as it is mostly alcohol, which has a drying effect on the skin. Also, hand sanitizer can cause microbes to become resistant to it, creating even worse strains of bacteria. Even worse, many people overuse it. So what do you use to wash your hands?
