Why Should You Shop Small?By Natural Organics
I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving!
Were you one of the people who crowded stores and malls on “Black Friday?”
I certainly wasn’t! Back in the day, I didn’t mind getting up before the crack of dawn and standing in huge lines to get more stuff I probably didn’t need. Since I’ve gotten older and learned to appreciate the finer things in life, I must say the need to participate in Black Friday has severely dissipated. I’ve also decided this year that in addition to skipping Black Friday, I am also only going to buy gifts for people from small businesses, whether online or local.
The Saturday after Thanksgiving was “Small Business Saturday” and I’m proud to say I was able to take part in this special day. I bought some beautiful gifts for my coworkers from a lady who makes her own handcrafted body products.
Even though “Small Business Saturday” is over, you can still help support indie businesses by purchasing your holiday gifts from the people who would really benefit from it, instead of adding to the wealth of huge corporations.
Here are a few ideas on where to shop the best small businesses:
- Like I did, you can shop at your local farmer’s market. Handmade items make wonderful gifts which people actually appreciate much more than store bought gifts. Somehow, a gift such as this just feels more heartfelt. Look for handmade beauty products or food items.
If the online thing is more your style, there are some fabulous Cyber Monday sales going on right now. Here’s a few for you to check out:
