It Takes Action-Support the Safe Chemicals Act

Kid-safe Chemicals Campaign

Have you asked for a stronger national chemicals policy? You should.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got more important things to do with my time than research product safety. And I bet you do, too!!

Of course I spend the time necessary to make sure I buy only the safest products for my family. I’m just not happy about it. I mean, products that are on the shelves should be safe, right? Yet, headlines tell me more often than I’d like that they’re not.

Take a few seconds to sign the petition… today.

We need a stronger law!

Which is precisely why I’m joining forces with Pure Natural Diva and Bottles to Britches to support the nationwide effort to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act in Congress. This law was passed back in 1976 (remember The BeeGees?!) and hasn’t adequately protected public health since. It’s high time to strengthen our country’s toxic chemicals law – and right now there’s an opportunity to do exactly that. See, this Spring Senator Frank Lautenberg (NJ) introduced The Safe Chemicals Act.

I hope you’ll join me in asking our representatives in Congress to pass this bill. It’s incredibly important, and the time is now. The more of us who ask, the more likely they are to listen. So go ahead,

Tell Congress to put toxics on its “to do” list NOW

The plan is to make it crystal clear that we want an effective national chemicals policy that protects human health, especially our children who are most affected by toxic chemicals.

The way I see it, if we’re frustrated by the current system (check), we should work hard to change it!

Numbers talk: 150,000 signatures is the goal.
EWG will deliver this petition to key lawmakers on Capitol Hill to show them how BIG and PASSIONATE this Safe Chemicals movement has become. Can you help us reach our goal today? It’s easy to sign and share – and extremely important to our success.

The time is right now.
There is a political window of opportunity to move the Safe Chemicals Act forward in 2010, but in the current political climate, windows close quickly and unpredictably. If we don’t give it our absolute all NOW, when the political momentum is there, we may lose this chance.

Sign it, share it
. This issue is far too important to let Congress do nothing. We need your help – by signing and sharing the petition – to get the Safe Chemicals Act on the Congressional “to-do” list. Preferably at the top.

Bonus Points? This only takes a minute!

Use this link to send a letter to your Senator quickly and easily.

Thank you for taking time to be heard!

Its so great to see a post like this. I have my own cosmetic line ( that is registered with safe cosmetics. Its so important to make people aware of the health risk that are involved with cosmetics and how it can affect them and their families in the long run. What gets me the most is the same cosmetic companies that try to raise money for causes such as breast cancer awareness are the same companies causing these cancers. We need to continue to educate and raise awareness about these harmful cosmetics!

Thank you for your comment and support, Joanna! I feel so strongly about this issue…so much so that I preparing for my ebook release soon detailing the major toxic ingredients companies use irresponsibly in cosmetics and what they can do to us! It’s also interesting to see you support the Safe Chemicals Act, since I’ve heard from nay small business owners who claim this will hurt their business.

I also previously wrote a post about what you’re referring to (how the cosmetics companies are contributing money to find a cure for a disease they are causing…it’s absurb!)

I hope you can check it out: A Pink Problem

Thank you, Annie!! Your support is so appreciated. :-)

Yes it will most definitely hurt small businesses but it will also save lives. In general there are so many carcinogenic cosmetic companies that still have their own niche and make it. Why can’t safe cosmetics do the same? Not to mention mass produced cosmetic companies will never be able to be 100% natural since they will need to inject their products with some kind of preservatives to extend the shelf life. They can use as much fancy advertising, false claims to be organic/natural and celebrity endorsements they want- it still won’t change the ingredients and that’s what matters the most. If I’m going to pay $20+ at the department store for a lip gloss I would rather put my money towards a lip gloss that is safe and can deliver the same great results. Department store and drug store quality to me is exactly the same, its the same toxic ingredients that I can do with out. I much rather put in a few extra $towards a safer brand than Chemo.

SO important to watch what we put on our skin. And it makes a huge difference – I’ve been using organic skincare for years now and my skin is just glowing – nothing compares. There’s no way I could go back! It’s criminal some of the ingredients that are in common skincare brands, and even in the ‘natural’ skincare brands. Frightening. You’ve really got to read the ingredients, and only trust products that are truly 100% natural.

Thank you so much for this post. This is something I’m very passionate about, and I’m so grateful to you for educating the public about this problem, and also providing an easy way to sign the petition/write to congress. It disgusts me that we need to pay so much more for products that are safe and natural, but the safety of my family is well worth the extra money. Unfortunately, many people are not able to shell out the extra money (especially in this economy) and they are forced to use products full of chemicals (even products for newborns!!) There should be more companies around that are willing to put the safety of the consumer over their profit. Thank you again.

I found that using natural ingredients around the house work better and can actually be cheaper than store bought products. After switching to natural beauty care I was able to cut my beauty expenses 75%
Its really great what you can find in your kitchen! I am working on a blog article that goes over safe alternatives using all natural ingredients.

Sounds great–can’t wait to read it. I have to say, back when I was looking for a deodorant without aluminum I was having a hard time finding something that works. I read online about a lot of people who use just plain baking soda. I tried it & it works wonderfully. I couldn’t believe it! I’d love to hear any other tips like that you might have :)
