No, this was not an episode of the Twilight Zone, folks….it’s a true story from my childhood. I always loved cosmetics and I liked to experiment with them and make weird concoctions. I didn’t really know what the results would be, and the good part about it was that my mom didn’t get mad at me for wasting stuff! I guess I just liked mixing things and I always used what I mixed, even though it might look a little gross. Back then, little did I know that I would end up an organic beauty advocate who loves trying new products! Where did my next product review lead me? To a place down under…

This little guy hails from Australia- where Miessence organic cosmetics originates.

I recently had the opportunity to enter into the world of  Miessence. Miessence is an Australian company known for their certified organic, chemical free formulas with extra emphasis on essential oils. I love it when companies show they truly care about their customers well being by choosing to use safe, healing ingredients. Miessence fits the bill by being a truly eco-conscious company.

Here’s a bit about each product I tried:

Luxurious Body Powder (My Favorite!)

The name says it all…it truly is a luxurious blend of simple, wholesome ingredients. I love using powder, especially after bathing. It lets you feel fresher, longer. Nothing feels as good as that after shower freshness and using powder helps extend that feeling.  When I first used this powder, the strong scent overpowered me a bit. It’s rich with essential oils, notably lavender, lime, bergamot, clove, vanilla, geranium, and patchouli. But when you apply it, it makes your skin feel so silky and smooth and the scent calms down a bit, like a baby after a feeding. This powder is great! I even started using it just to fresh up a bit between showers…it has only two other ingredients: cornstarch and clay which work together synergistically to absorb wetness and soothe skin. I am very impressed with this powder. It gives such a great alternative for us ladies who love to use powder but want to avoid toxic talc and body powders full of synthetic ingredients.

Rose Geranium Cleansing Bar

Soap is soap, right? Not really….this soap is perfectly natural and uses extra virgin coconut to gently cleanse your skin. The scent is very delicate (unlike some of their other products.) It even came with a loofah bag in which you can place the soap to exfoliate your body! I really liked this. We don’t exfoliate enough as a society in my opinion. Get rid of those dead skin cells to make room for young, new ones! After my shower, my skin was so soft and healthy looking.

Mint Toothpaste

This chopper cleaner uses one of my favorite ingredients to clean and whiten your teeth: sodium bicarbonate. What the heck is that, you say? Baking soda! Did you know you can make your own tooth powder using baking soda and a few more simple ingredients? See this video for specific directions. If you are not Ms. DIY 2011, this toothpaste would be a great option for you. It contains no fluoride (Say no to fluoride!) or detergents to cleanse your teeth and mouth naturally. I noticed my breath was quite fresh after I used it. The taste is a bit different, sweet yet salty…I think it may be because of the salt and stevia in it. Other than that, it has a bunch of essential oils and herbs which work together to freshen your breath and promote a healthy mouth.

Jaffa Lip Balm

This lip balm was ok…it contains a ton of natural moisturizing ingredients such as sunflower and  avocado oil, shea butter, and beeswax no to mention essential oils like vanilla and sweet orange. I found that my lips dried out a bit a while after applying so this wasn’t my favorite Miessence offering.

So what are my final thoughts on Miessence? Well, now, I am completely addicted to the powder. I used to use Burt’s Bee’s but now I don’t think I can ever go back. If you like powder as much as me, you need to try this! One day I put some on in the morning, and later that day, (you know… when you come home and you just can’t wait to get out of your work clothes) I still smelled it and felt fresh. I did like the other products too, but none came close to the effect the powder had over me. The one thing I truly admire about Miessence though, is their products are healthy for you and your family to use. As their website states:

“The Miessence® products stand in a class of their own as the first and only comprehensive range of certified organic skin, hair, cosmetic and body care products on the planet.”

P.S. My boyfriend uses the Miessence deodorant for men and loves it! I am quite sensitive to certain ingredients, even in natural deodorants and the Miessence deodorant didn’t work quite well for me. Everybody has different body chemistry..so what works for one, may not work for another. Keep that in mind if you choose to experience the essence of Miessence. ;-) Visit Emerald Organics to view more info and special offers on Miessence.

Stay natural…stay beautiful…go green!
