Is There a Cure For Gray Hair?
ByThis is a question that has plagued me since I was 30. Yes, I started to grow gray hair at age 30! Now, at age 33, I have a few more that creep through and that is when it’s time for me to go get my highlights done! I was thinking the other day….when you just can’t get to the hair salon, could there be a way to rid yourself of gray hairs naturally?
First off, where do gray hairs come from? Your kids, your mate….stress? Maybe…gray hair results when there is a lack of melanin in the hair, which gives it color. Age is not always a factor for developing gray hair. Even children can get it! The biggest factor for getting gray hair is heredity. If your mom or dad had gray hair, you probably will too. Now that we know why we have it….what is there to do?
Many women use hair color to cover their gray. Have you ever thought about what’s in your hair dye? Commercial hair color is incredibly toxic and linked to hair loss and cancer! Hair dyes contain chemical ingredients that have already been banned in Europe. So why are they still in hair dyes in the U.S? In fact, many people attribute Jackie Kennedy’s lymphoma and eventual demise to the fact that she continually dyed her hair throughout her life. To make matters worse, darker colors are more dangerous.

So what are your options? I use organic hair color, which might not be available in your area. I did a little research and turns out there are natural ways to prevent gray hair. These include changes to your diet and topical solutions which use common household ingredients. Please enjoy this article and let me know what you think in the comment section below.

I’ve been coloring my hair for years either at a salon or at home with the commercial stuff.
What have you tried from Whole Foods that you thought worked well? Or have you ordered
natural hair color on-line? Would love to switch, then eventually embrace my grey.
-Thanks, Sheila
Hello Sheila,
I haven’t used any of the dyes from Whole Foods yet…I am a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to coloring my own hair! I go to the salon where my stylist uses organic hair color. I have heard from others though that henna is good for darker hair, although if you have light hair, it will not work. I would love to hear from readers who have found a good at home natural hair color…..comments please?
Robin
Yes it’s not available in my area.. do you happen to know where I can get it online?
Thanks for the great post!
Im realli scared to be even around my mom wen she uses those drugstore hairdyes because they’re so toxic.
I only dyed my hair once in my life and I regret it terribly because I think it contributed to the Leukemia I had 2 months later!
Hi Sisi,
I am so sorry to hear you got sick. I hope you are better now. Did you change the beauty products you use? My mom used to dye her hair quite often too and use talc powder and she got ovarian cancer. I hope we can bring more attention to toxic beauty products so people can start making better choices for a healthier lifestyle. Thanks for reading. I really appreciate you. Did you enter the giveaway for the organic beauty products? It’s a great chance to try a safe, pure line.

Hi!
Thanks for the reply, I am doing much better now but I had to have a bone marrow transplant. I totally changed the beauty products I used altho it wasn\’t easy and I did it step by step. I am very aware of the toxicity of talc and I\’ve blogged about how it\’s linked to ovarian cancer and warned readers to watch out for it. I just started my natural beauty/health blog a month ago and I\’m glad to see other bloggers like you passionate about living and sharing ways to a greener lifestyle. Keep up the good work!
