Hair Care Review: Original Sprout Worry-Free Luxury

hair care review

It all starts with an Original Sprout.

When I was a little girl, my mom did something to me that was almost unforgivable! She cut my hair really short. I know you might have been expecting something worse, but that was it. I was about 4 or 5 years old….and for a little girl this was not a fun thing. Almost every time we went out, someone would invariably say, “What a cute little boy!” How anyone could mistake my little cherub face for a boy is beyond me…but anyway, sometimes I think having a “boy” cut at such a young age scarred me.

When I was in high school I grew my hair pretty long and got a perm. Yes, a perm. I had poodle hair and I thought it looked good! Looking back, I can see I was very wrong. When I was 23, my hair stylist convinced me to cut my hair and she took off way more than I was comfortable with. I had a short hair cut again! I do have one good thing to say about it though: short hair really is wash and go, which is ideal for those busy mornings when you just need to run out the door. Also, if you get a really stylish cut, it can look beautiful!

Eventually I grew it long again, cut it chin length and had a cute little bob. I missed my longer hair though so now I am in the process of growing it long yet again. Why so much hair talk today? Well, I don’t know about you, but for me, my hair has always been a majorly important part of my appearance and I wanted to give you a little bit of my hair history. Come on, who leaves the house without doing their hair? I’ve tried so many products to help my hair look its best, trashed ‘em, then tried some more. Sometimes, it’s a never-ending journey! Of course, I have very high standards when it comes to my hair products. Not just anything will do. I ditched the SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) laced stuff years ago, so my hair has already gone through a detox phase (which yours will too if you decide to switch to a natural shampoo.) It’s still sometimes tough to find a safe and effective natural shampoo that doesn’t weigh your hair down. Well I found it, folks and I am going to share my experiences with today’s hair care review!

Hair Care Review: It All Starts With an Original Sprout

At first, when I contemplated doing a review of Original Sprout’s Worry Free Luxury Line, I was hesitant. I thought it was just for babies, but then I did a bit more research and saw their products were designed for babies and up…..perfect for me since I (and most of us) fall into the “up” category! But I also decided to do this review because I know many families who are expecting or have small children and are concerned about the toxins in their future offering’s personal care products. So my testing of Original Sprout began! I was able to sample 4 products from their Worry Free Luxury Line, including three hair products and one body cream. The one thing that struck me besides the fact that all the ingredients are organic, natural and 100% vegan was the scent. I hate it when natural products have a strong, perfumey scent. I used to love the scent of lavender in my skin care…but when it’s overdone, it can be awful! This is not the case for Original Sprout. The products are scented with an absolutely wonderful, clean, and fresh scent that isn’t cloying at all and originate naturally from essential oils. They made my hair smell fresh for days and I love good smelling hair! Read on for more…

Original Sprout Natural Shampoo

Ok, besides the scent, what else makes this shampoo stand out from the crowd? Check out these stats:

  • Contains no xenoestrogenic essential oils for those sensitive to them, such as lavender
  • Great for color treated hair since it helps retain your color
  • No synthetic colors or dyes
  • Gentle on eyes (truly no more tears)
  • Gluten, soy, and peanut free

When I used it, I truly saw my hair’s health shine through. It claims to be “anti-frizz” and it is! I’ve never seen my hair behave like this before, especially in the South Florida heat. My hair usually begins the day behaving but by 3:00 is a big frizz ball. Not this time! It’s also SLS free yet still foams nicely, allowing you to really cleanse your hair of all the dirt, oil, and pollution it collects throughout the day. I also like that it’s for sensitive skin, so you know it will be great to use on baby! The only downfall: the bottle is 33 ounces (a pretty nice size) and sells for $42.95. Do you think that’s a lot? Not really, when you consider you’re buying a completely safe natural product and it comes out to only about $1.30 per ounce! Another way to save a bit on cost: you can opt for a sample pack before you decide to shell out $43 for the big bottle (or get the 12 ounce for $19.50.) They offering a 3 piece set consisting of a 4 ounce shampoo, conditioner, and spf sample for only $11.99. This is just a summer special so get in on it while supplies last!

Hair Care Review: Original Sprout Deep Conditioner

I have very tangly hair…usually after I shampoo, I apply conditioner, leave it in for a bit, and comb it through before rinsing. Even after doing this, I still have trouble getting the comb through. Ugh! Not with this fabulous conditioner. I was able to comb my hair easily! It smells awesome and is full of moisturizing ingredients such as:

  • Kukui Seed Oil
  • Organic Chamomile
  • Organic Rosemary
  • Organic Arnica Montana

Hair Care Review: Original Sprout Miracle Detangler

When I saw they had a detangler, I jumped on it since I have such tangly hair and also because I know many kids do too (especially girls.) The worst thing when you’re a kid is felling the pain when your mom tries to comb your hair through after your bath. This detailer truly is a miracle! It’s a lightweight creme in a spray form. As soon as you spray it on, the brush glides easily through the toughest tangles. The added benefits is it also adds extra conditioning to the hair. Many children’s detanglers contain toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde and lye. This one contains nothing harmful or artificial and can safely be used on your children. A 4 ounce bottle is $11.50 (very worth it) and the larger 12 ounce is $18.71. It can last a while if you don’t overdo it, which I recommend because too much may make your hair oily. Here’s a few of the ingredients:

  • Rosemary
  • Basil
  • Vitamin B
  • Organic Cranberry

Original Sprout Sumptuous Baby Cream

I primarily focused on the hair care products for this review, but I also used this baby cream and guess what, it’s not just for babies! It also has that wonderful clean scent and is so full of lovely ingredients for baby and you, such as:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Zinc
  • Calendula

The coconut oil moisturizes gently and the zinc and calendula have a calming effect. It couldn’t’ be more perfect for baby’s painful diaper rashes. It absorbs quickly and really helps to heal skin irritations. Now I don’t have a baby, but I used it on myself, especially when I had a rash from shaving on my legs. I used it for a few days and it really calmed the burning and reduced the bumps. This is a great cream for baby, mom, and dad too!

I really liked these products and would not hesitate to buy them for myself and my future kids! I’ve done many hair care reviews and liked the products I reviewed, but not often do I adore them so much that I will repurchase for myself. They are not just a haircare and baby cream company. They also carry sunscreen I want to try, other products for babies, products for kids and teens, and a new Tahitian Collection, including hair oil, and spf. What a way to get a bit of the islands into your day to day life! You can purchase the products online or in select stores around the world. Check out their website and read some of their testimonials…all I can say is, thanks, Original Sprout for caring about what you put into your products and making products that really work! Check out the video below and meet Inga, the mom and master stylist behind Original Sprout.

Do you think you’d be willing to pay $42 for shampoo if you knew it was truly safe and pure for you and your most precious ones? Leave your comment below and don’t forget to hit Like, Tweet, or Google + if you enjoyed this post.

Yahhh it’s so cool you are growing your hair back. LOL@poodle hair. funny. my daughter has called me that a time or two.

I’m growing my hair too. Goal is breast length by end of year. Struggling tho. I am incurring breakage for no apparent reason these days. I do everything I know to do….protective styling, no heat, deep conditioning, moisturizing etc. and still breakage. smh

Thank you for your post on hair—an important part of all of us :) Original Little Sprouts is amazing! it does not weigh your hair down and works on the entire family. We’ve tried their shampoo and deep conditioner, love them! Stay away from products which contain SLS who wants a degreaser in their hair and possible vulnerability to hair loss! Thanks for sharing!

Ooooh girl, I feel your pain! My hair stylist told me I had breakage too….sounds like you’re doing all the right things. Perhaps, it’s a nutritional deficiency? I started taking additional supplements for my hair and I plan to report on it soon! Good luck on the hair growing!

My hair is now down to my waist which is quite an achievement seeing as I lost so much of it due to a serious Vitamin deficiency. Some great information here. Loved it.

I think chopping off long hair is something many moms did or do so that they have an easier time taking care of their child’s hair. You are not alone in your trauma!

I love that natural and organic products are becoming so popular, especially for beauty regimens. Women everywhere need to know how awesome natural products are because they are not only gentle and restorative, but they’re also powerful and don’t use harsh chemicals.

PS – there is not an age limit on long hair! The mom bob is cute, but no one should feel like they have to have it at a certain time in their lives.

Great review! I’m not sure if I’d want to spend $42.00 for one bottle of shampoo, which would probably be the only thing holding me back from trying this line. I guess if you think about it, that’s actually not too bad considering what some department store and salon brands charge though! I’d be curious to find out what the shelf life on these products are. If I pay $42, I wouldn’t want it to go bad on me before I used it all! :)

    Hi Jamie,

The price kind of got me too…but after I used the shampoo and loved it, I went ahead and purchased the bigger bottles of the shampoo & conditioner. I think that was about 4-5 months ago and I still have more than 1/4 left in the bottles. To me, it’s worth not having to re-buy again and again. And when you think about price, it’s not really that bad because you are getting a huge bottle. They do have a long shelf life! Mine are still good!

I tried to order some of these products after reading your review. I’m a breast cancer survivor and always looking for natural products, especially for my new, post-chemo hair. Anyway, original sprout website told me they weren’t shipping to my region at this time! I’m in Southern California, not very exotic.
