The Real Cause of Armpit Odor

armpit odorI’m about to touch on a sensitive subject…armpit odor…or namely what is the true cause of armpit odor?

This is topic near and dear to me as I have experienced this problem firsthand. There’s nothing more horrible than thinking you smell great when the person next to you says, “Um, you stink!” This is an issue which affects a large amount of people. So let’s get right to it and discover the real cause of armpit odor and what to do about it!

Many people think armpit odor is caused by bacteria underneath the arms. This is a myth…if it were true, our entire body would smell as we have bacteria living all over our body!

So what really causes our armpits to smell?

It’s our diet.

What goes in, must come out.

All the things that come out of your body reflect what you put in. Most of us are consuming the Standard American Diet (SAD.) This includes things like GMO corn products, refined flours, fast food, and sugar. If you’re putting garbage in your body, garbage is gonna come out! I definitely noticed this as I was growing up. I used to eat things like Cheetos, Funyons (damn, I loved those!), and soda. I also remember my armpits smelling…no matter which high powered deodorant I used!

You may also experience armpit odor if you eat fairly healthy, yet are consuming foods you’re allergic to, but may not know about. You may be eating things like bread, cereal, and pasta and have a wheat allergy and the odor is the result of your body trying to detox.

So in effect, if you’re eating processed, unnatural foods and food you cannot digest, your body tries to get rid of the toxins. How does it get rid of the toxins? Through your pits!

[What makes matters worse is we use antiperspirants which block the excretion of toxins through our armpits, forcing them to stay in our system! ]

But let’s go a bit deeper into this.

In order to free yourself of odor, you need to detox!

Do you know what the number one organ for detoxing is in the body? You guessed it, the liver. The liver is like your body’s security guard, filtering toxins your body cannot use. It does this in two ways: it produces bile, a liquid that carries toxins to the bowel for disposal and cleanses by producing enzymes which help break down toxins. It then excretes them form the body. The kidneys take part in this process as well.

If our livers are constantly barraged with toxins from food (not to mention personal care products and the environment) it becomes overworked and cannot function properly. If the liver can’t do its job, the toxins stay in the blood, which then leads to an odor as well as other health problems.

In other words, if you’re experiencing armpit odor, chances are your liver’s toxic!

This may happen even if you’ve already switched to a natural deodorant.

Here’s another hint of a toxic liver: say you shower and forget to use deodorant. If you start to smell a few hours after, there’s probably putrefaction (a.k.a food you cannot digest rotting in your body – gross!) going on inside and that’s an indication of a poor diet.

So what to do if you have a toxic liver? Don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you hanging. I have a few solutions for you.

Of course, the first thing to do is to clean up your diet. JERF- (Just Eat Real Food), like pastured eggs, grassfed meat, organic fruits, greens, and properly prepared raw nuts and seeds. Eating like this for a few weeks should greatly reduce, if not eliminate the odor.

According to Natural News, the best “cleaning” supplements which can reduce body odor are chlorella, parsley, and cilantro. These superfoods and herbs do a terrific job of cleansing the blood of toxins.

But here’s my best method for detoxifying the liver that I do on a weekly basis!

Coffee enemas….did you just say, “Ewww!?”

It’s not as nasty as you think, especially when you hear about the results. I’ve been doing them for about 6 months now and when I recently went to get my Biomeridian assessment, my practitioner tested my liver. She said, “Wow, your liver is happy!” The major contributing factor to this is the coffee enemas.

I learned about them when my boyfriend and I watched a documentary on the Gerson Method. This is a natural cancer cure in which the patients eat a raw fruits and veggie diet and have daily, sometimes hourly coffee enemas. This detoxifies the liver in a powerful way. The coffee enters the liver and triggers the release of glutathione, which is the master antioxidant in the body. Glutathione makes excess free radicals water soluble for easy elimination from cells in the body. and It also blocks and detoxifies carcinogens. The liver uses glutathione to neutralize poisons such as alcohol, caffeine, medications, and remove them from the blood.

[Studies have shown increased glutathione levels contribute to youth and vitality. Many anti aging supplements contain glutathione.]

This method is not only for cancer patients, however. According to Treating Cancer Alternatively website,

“Coffee enemas work exceedingly well in detoxifying the liver by the removal of body waste thereby beginning the process of reversing cancer. Coffee enemas work exceedingly well to overcome the inflammatory aches and pains of arthritis, cancer, and other painful body degenerations.”

We do it as a preventative measure and we sure are reaping the benefits. You get an amazing energy burst immediately afterwards and your liver is happy and toxin-free. It’s important to do them at least once a week and more if needed, since we’re exposed to toxins daily.

So now you know that armpit odor equals a toxic liver. Are you going to take steps to detoxify your liver? If you are, please tell me what you plan to do or what you already do to detox. Are you a proponent of coffee enemas? What has it done for you? Share in the comments section below.

I learned that if those things that come out of your body – sweat, urine, etc – smell bad, that means you’ve been putting in unhealthy things to your body. I also read somewhere that if you eat less red meat or minimize your intake at least, our excrement wouldn’t smell as foul.

I think the bacteria in the armpit is also true. Aside from poor eating habits, our armpits are more prone to odor because of its “enclosed” location and production of sweat.

Very interesting- thanks Robin. Another informative, and powerful topic of discussion! The saying “we are what we eat” didn’t come out of nowhere right? ;)

    Regena,

Exactly! You (and your body) truly are a reflection of what you eat. As Hippocrates said, “Let thy food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food.

After reading this I’m thinking maybe I need to do another detox. It’s been a while and I think I could have been more diligent about it too. So I have to ask if you need to use a specific type of coffee?

  • http://www.toxicbeautyblog.com Natural Organics

    Hi Tiffany,

That’s a great question! You should use only organic regular (not decaf) coffee! It’s actually the caffeine that does the job of releasing glutathione. I usually buy the supermarket brand…they do make coffee’s especially for this, but I don’t think it’s necessary to go to this expense. :-)

Very interesting information. I have heard about some of this before, and about how our body has to work harder the more toxins we put into it. However, I do believe, like a commenter above, that bacteria does have something to do with the smell. Anytime you sweat in an enclosed space for a period of time, bacteria already present on our skin can multiply faster. And we do end up smelling all over our bodies… if we don’t bathe for a few days! ;) I am also not into the cleanses/enemas, but that is a personal choice because of other research I have come across. Thanks for sharing all this information!! :)

Thanks for the great information. I’ve always heard about coffee enemas, but I always thought that they’re for people with Cancer. Yes, once in a while I can smell myself after a workout and think that I forgot to apply my natural deodorant after my shower. I know that I have a wheat allergy and possibly a dairy allergy and that must be it! Once In a while, I’ll eat something with wheat or dairy….I can’t wait to get your instructions. Great blog! Thanks!
